Doug Buerkle, Commercialization Advisor
Doug Buerkle is an innovator and entrepreneur who has successfully guided the growth of multiple technology companies. As Founding Executive Director of NEXUS-NY, he designed, launched and led day-to-day operations of the clean energy proof-of-concept center. NEXUS was established to catalyze the translation of early stage energy technologies from research labs to the marketplace through the formation of startup companies. Starting operations in 2014, it has achieved national recognition while launching 22 new startup companies and helping to raise and deploy more than $75M over the past 4 years.
Prior to NEXUS-NY, Doug led efforts to commercialize novel energy storage materials developed in the research labs at Corning, Inc. He co-founded Lumella, Inc., a startup which developed and commercialized novel diffractive optics for telecommunications, laser and other applications. He exited Lumella through the sale of IP and other assets to Olympus Corporation. Other career highlights include Newport Corporation, where he held multiple roles, including General Manager of its diffraction grating business.
Doug currently consults through LTM Ventures where he helps larger, established organizations to accelerate the launch of new businesses and products, typically by leveraging partnerships with startups and/or inventors of disruptive technologies.
Doug holds an MBA from the Simon School at the University of Rochester and a B.S. in Engineering from Temple University.
Ken Camarco, Manufacturing Advisor
Clarkson University alumnus and Trustee, Ken Camarco ‘85 of Colts Neck, New Jersey is the president and founder of Boundless Breakthroughs LLC, a startup company developing innovative material handling and cargo management products, in addition to providing business process improvement advisory services across a variety of industries.
Camarco was a member of Pall Corporation’s (Port Washington, NY) executive management team; and in 2014 he was appointed chief customer satisfaction officer to lead the corporation’s “customer first” initiatives to develop a culture of service excellence across all customer touch points. During his tenure at Pall, Camarco led global operations, supply chain, and information technology for the corporation. In 2015, Pall was sold to Danaher Corp.
Mike Derrick, Strategic Advisor
Mike brings proven leadership experience to the DTI team. He served three decades in the U.S. Army, commanded troops in combat, and rose to executive levels of military and diplomatic leadership. Following military service, he concluded his government career as a senior advisor at the U.S. Department of State. He has lived and served around the world and will bring DTI a global perspective on operations and strategy. Having built organizations from small combat units to a multi-national enterprise, Mike knows how to optimize teams in order to deliver results. In the 2016 election cycle, he continued his public service by running for the U.S. Congress in New York’s 21stDistrict.
Mike holds a BS from the United States Military Academy, West Point and two MAs from Indiana University. He has taught on the faculty at both West Point and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.
Mike and his wife, Kathy, live in the Champlain Valley in Northern New York.
