Gen 1 Lessons

Published June 7th, 2020 by Ductedken

As we make progress towards our first install for the Gen 2, we have not abandoned the Gen 1 workhorse! It has become a great workhorse and test bed for new ideas as we move forward.  In particular, our partnership with Sol-Ark in developing a hybrid inverter has expanded the test scope of the Gen 1 in ways we never imagined. Retirement is not in the near future for the Gen 1!!

Gen 2 has Started!

Good News! Production has started on the Gen 2 unit!  The COVID-19 outbreak has restricted our progress for the past couple of months, but as NY state eases restrictions on businesses, we can again move forward. Looking forward to getting our first Gen 2 turbine up soon as suppliers get back online!

DWT offers dual-use 12kW Sol-Ark Inverter

Published April 24th, 2020 by Ductedken

DWT is pleased to announce they will be offering a new dual-use 12 kW Sol-Ark inverter (https://www.sol-ark.com/sol-ark-12k/) on their Ventus 3 ducted turbine. The downstream electronics of a small wind turbine are not only critical to maintaining an efficient conversion of electricity from the turbine to the grid, but also a means of safely controlling and stopping the turbine when needed. Sol-Ark is providing DWT with a dual-use version of their 12kW inverter that will be able to use wind or solar on either of the two input channels. Hence, customers can configure their systems for a wind + solar input, or two wind turbines, on the same inverter. Sol-Ark inverters have a lot of other great features and you can check them out here: https://www.sol-ark.com

Staying Safe

Published April 22nd, 2020 by Ductedken

Happy 50th Earth Day! And today marks the 1 year anniversary of our Gen 1 unit on the Clarkson University campus. Staying at home is not what we expected a year ago, but at least the turbine is impervious and continues to run nominally and we like that! Check it out via webcam and feel free to stop by anytime and see it live. (once we can again!)

It's tougher to move forward as a startup with all the impacts of the the COVID-19 pandemic, but we continue to do so!!! Development is moving forward on the Gen 2. Molds for the duct will be done in a week. Very exciting! We are still planning to have our first install at Asgaard Farm and Dairy in Q2. If you get a chance, stop by and see them and try their GREAT goat cheese and delicious grass fed beef!!

DWEA

DWT gave a presentation the the Distributed Wind Energy Association on Feb 27, as well as participating in the 2 day conference.  Perhaps most interesting was being involved in working on the new standards for the small wind in the US. High tides float all boats!
